A Japanese Restaurant
Unlike Any Other in Melbourne
Tucked away on Little Collins Street in Melbourne's CBD, Temaki Sushi is not your typical Japanese restaurant. There are no conveyor belts, no bustling dining halls, no compromises. With just five tables, every guest receives the kind of focused, personal attention that transforms a meal into a memory.
Head Chef Hiroshi curates a seasonal omakase menu that weaves together the finest seafood, premium wagyu, and organic produce harvested fresh from our own 35-acre farm in the Dandenong Ranges. The journey culminates in our signature interactive temaki course, where you build your own hand rolls from a beautifully composed platter of pristine ingredients.
From the handmade ceramic tableware crafted in our pottery studio to the boutique sake imported directly from Japanese breweries, every detail at Temaki Sushi is chosen with intention. This is Japanese dining as it should be: intimate, considered, and deeply personal.
Intimate by Design,
Extraordinary by Nature
Most Japanese restaurants in Melbourne CBD seat dozens, even hundreds. We chose a different path. With only five tables in our entire venue, Temaki Sushi offers something increasingly rare: genuine intimacy. Every guest is seen, every dish is considered, and every evening feels like a private occasion.
The space itself reflects this philosophy. Warm timber, soft lighting, and handmade ceramics create an atmosphere that is both refined and welcoming. There is no rush, no noise — only the quiet focus of Chef Hiroshi and the gentle unfolding of each course.
What Sets Us Apart
Not just a Japanese restaurant in Melbourne CBD — a complete experience, from farm to table to ceramics.
Seasonal Omakase Menu
A multi-course journey curated by Head Chef Hiroshi, evolving with the seasons and featuring the finest Australian and Japanese ingredients.
Interactive Hand Rolls
Build your own temaki from a beautifully composed platter of pristine seafood, premium meats, and organic produce — sushi reimagined as a personal experience.
35-Acre Organic Farm
Our own farm in the Dandenong Ranges supplies Japanese and Western produce, wild honey, and free-range eggs — ingredients that never see a supermarket shelf.
Handmade Ceramics
Every plate, bowl, and cup is handcrafted at our pottery studio using clays from Shiga Prefecture, Japan — continuing the legacy of Shigaraki-yaki, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns.
Boutique Sake Selection
Imported directly from boutique Japanese breweries, our sake program features two distinct grades — from the robust Junmai to the delicate Junmai Daiginjo — each paired with your courses.
AGFG Award Winner 2026
Recognised by the Australian Good Food Guide as an Award Winner for culinary excellence — a testament to our unwavering commitment to craft and quality.
Trust the Chef,
Taste the Season
Omakase translates simply to "I leave it up to you" — the ultimate expression of trust between diner and chef. At Temaki Sushi, our omakase is a carefully orchestrated narrative across multiple courses, each one building upon the last.
The journey begins with delicate appetizers and seasonal sashimi, moves through a warming hot course, and culminates in our signature interactive hand-roll experience. Every ingredient is chosen at its peak, every transition between courses is deliberate, and every plate tells a story of the season.
The Art of
Interactive Temaki
The heart of our omakase is the interactive hand-roll course — a beautifully composed platter placed before you, brimming with pristine fish, premium meats, seasonal pickles, and warm nori. This is not simply a dish; it is an invitation to participate.
You build each roll yourself, guided by your instincts and your appetite. Wasabi soy tuna with grated yam. Seared wagyu with Japanese BBQ sauce. Steamed duck breast with pumpkin purée. Each combination is yours to create, making every visit a new experience.
True to its name — temaki meaning "hand-rolled" — this is sushi reimagined: not just to be eaten, but experienced.
Every Detail, Intentional
From the soil of our farm to the kiln of our pottery studio — no element of your experience is left to chance.
